The short answer

That choice changes the electrical requirement significantly, because a reverse cycle ducted unit needs a properly sized dedicated circuit and a board with the room and protection to provide it.

On a large floorplan, zoning the system is what makes the running cost sensible. Conditioning bedrooms all day is wasted energy.

The RCD retrofit that comes first

A detached structure needs its own sub-main from the switchboard, sized for the load and the run, with its own small distribution board and RCD protection at the shed. That is not us being fussy. A workshop with power tools, a second fridge and a welder on the end of a garden extension lead is a genuine fire and shock risk, and it will also be found by any inspector at sale time.

Because the roof rarely limits you here, the sizing conversation is about consumption. A household running ducted cooling through summer afternoons uses power when a north and west array is generating, which is a good match. Adding a 10kWh battery at $8,000 to $12,000 before rebates and around $5,500 to $9,500 after makes more sense once the daytime load is already covered, not before.
