Heat Pump Hot Water Systems in Seaholme

A heat pump hot water system puts a compressor, a fan and a finned coil outside, permanently. In Seaholme that assembly sits in salt laden air most of the year. Salt attacks the aluminium fins, the fasteners, the bracket feet and the enclosure seals, and it does it fastest on anything that stays damp.

Our standard here is marine or coastal grade fixings throughout, a weatherproof isolator rated for the exposure, a mounting position that keeps the unit off wet ground, and where the site allows it, some shelter from the prevailing salt spray direction without choking off airflow. Several manufacturers also offer coated coil versions of the same model, and in Seaholme that option is usually worth the difference.

Seaholme blocks are compact original beachside lots and side access is often narrow. That has two consequences. Getting a new tank in and an old one out has to be planned rather than assumed, and cable and pipe routing usually has to go around the building rather than straight through it.

We look for a rear or corner position where the fan discharge points away from both houses, use anti vibration mounts as standard, and where the site really does not allow a good position, we set the timer window to daylight hours. Running the unit in the early afternoon is better for efficiency anyway, so the compromise usually costs nothing.
