Heat Pump Hot Water Systems in Grovedale

Grovedale is overwhelmingly 1970s to 1990s brick veneer built as Belmont spread south, with 2000s estate housing on the western and southern edges. That has two consequences for a hot water changeover, and both of them are good news. The wiring is modern enough to build on rather than replace, and the blocks are wide enough that access is not the deciding factor it is closer to town.

The short answer

Heat pump hot water in Grovedale 3216 is one of the more straightforward changeovers in the region. The constraint that does come up is spare ways. A 1970s or 80s board is frequently full, which is the usual reason a straightforward hot water job turns into a board job. It is a smaller piece of work than a ceramic fuse replacement in Belmont, but it still has to be sorted before a dedicated circuit exists.

Why access is cheap here and why that matters

Typical Grovedale blocks in the 1970s and 80s streets are 600 to 750 square metres on 16 to 20 metre frontages, and most have a gate wide enough to run cable and carry a tank to the rear. As a guide, 170 to 220 litres suits one or two people, 250 to 280 litres suits three or four, and 300 litres or more suits five or more. Grovedale has a lot of four bedroom family houses, which puts most of them in the top two brackets.

Against a conventional electric storage tank a heat pump uses roughly one third of the electricity for the same hot water, so the saving exists whether or not you have solar. Against gas the comparison is different: the heat pump can absorb your own generation and gas cannot use it at all, and if hot water is your last gas appliance then disconnecting removes the daily supply charge as well. Solar Homes contributes up to $1,000, or up to $1,400 for a locally made product, subject to a $150,000 combined household income cap from 1 July 2026. Victorian Energy Upgrades discounts the invoice directly, with no income test, on a property at least two years old with a $200 including GST minimum customer contribution. Federal STCs are worth roughly $300 to $600. Most Grovedale households pay a few hundred dollars up to about $1,500.
